Do you talk Tele?

When Fender introduced its Custom Shop Relic models in the mid-’90s, few could have guessed how big the market for relics would become. Guitarists like myself crave vintage authenticity and new-guitar reliability in the same instrument. Complete with strategically placed arm-wear; nicks, dings, and checking; corroded hardware; and other signs of extensive use, Fender’s Road Worn series could be dead ringers for their vintage inspirations. But most importantly, these guitars cost a fraction of the price of their predecessors and unlike vintage instruments, are replaceable—handy for touring guitarists who don't want to take their beloved original instruments on the road.
Planet Music is proud to offer a 1950's Fender Road Worn Telecaster version in blonde (althougth I prefer brunettes!)

Please feel free to come in and talk Tele with me, or give me a call on (02) 6621 7784.

The World's First Digital Recorder Video Microphone -
The VideoMic HD.

  VideoMic HD

RØDE Microphones is extremely proud to announce the VideoMic HD, a high-fidelity, precision RF bias shotgun microphone with integrated digital recording, designed for use with DSLR and large-sensor video cameras.

The VideoMic HD is a true condenser super-cardioid shotgun microphone, with audio
DNA directly inherited from RØDE's flagship NTG3 professional shotgun microphone.
Featuring RF bias technology, the VideoMic HD is virtually immune to RF interference and condensation that can cause other condenser microphones to fail.

Continuing its history of innovation and 'industry-firsts', RØDE has incorporated a high quality digital recorder into the body of the VideoMic HD, removing the need for a separate audio recorder while still providing audio signal to the camera for a superior reference audio track.

An integrated headphone jack with level control allows users to monitor their recording in real-time, while a high contrast LCD display on the rear of the microphone provides visual metering as well as basic recording control.

Spanish Film 'Percebeiros' nominated for a Goya Award for Best Documentary - with the help of RØDE!

The wind roars. The sea crashes against the cliff. On two meters of rock, there's a strip of water and oxygen where the goose barnacle grows.
Two meters where the sea shows no mercy, and beats with millenary strength. A line of waves and foam where Serxo and his comrades fight for a bite out of the sea.

Gorgeously shot and incredibly engaging, Spanish short 'Percebeiros' (Sea Bites) has deservedly been nominated for a Goya Award for Best Documentary - the Spanish equivalent of Hollywood's Oscars.

The film features Serxo, a barnacle fisherman who lives and works in the town of Cedeira on the Spanish coastline. Serxo shares his story and the way of life that is barnacle fishing - a dangerous art passed down from generation to generation, on which his family has been reared.

To back up the amazing visuals, the film's sound director Suso Ramallo chose to trust RØDE's NTG3 to record the documentary's audio:

"I actually chose the NTG3 due to two fundamental reasons, one was its resistance to moisture. As you can see in the "Percebeiros" making-of I did the recordings at few meters over the fisherman (3 to 4 meters over him). The conditions were extremely hard for a regular condenser microphone. The 416 and the NTG3 can work in these extreme moisture conditions though I like the richer NTG3 tone (is much bodied sound than the 416)."

"I didn't have much time to prepare for these recordings. We followed the fishermen for five full days so all work was done much like a live reporter with minimal interference to the work of the fishermen. We followed the fishermen in a different boat, and hang on the cliffs just like them and as close as we could get to them. The cliffs in that area are very high (500m) and you can only access them by boat, and them jumping onto rocks. Jumping to get to the rocks was the most difficult part of filming this documentary.

.. We also chose the RØDE NTG3, combined with the Earthworks SR20 for interior scenaries, because it gives a better quality than the classic 416 Sennheiser."

A RØDE NT4 was also used for foley work in the film.

'The Perfect DSLR Microphone?' Multi-award winning photographer and filmmaker Edmond Terakopian asks the question as he reviews the RØDEVideoMic Pro recently on his photography blog, Photo This and That.

RØDE is proud to have had celebrated London-based photographer and filmmaker Edmond Terakopian recently review the VideoMic Pro. Already an avid user of theVideoMic, Terakopian compares the two microphones and finds the VideoMic Pro lives up to the high bar set by its predecessor.

"The larger VideoMic was already a superb microphone, and the VideoMic Pro, although much smaller, was as directional in its sound gathering and just as clear in picking up all the detail in the voice."

Terakopian also comments on the compact form factor of the VideoMic Pro: "The smaller size naturally has its conveniences; it's much harder to snag the microphone and naturally it takes up less room when packed. The shorter size also means that it's now much easier to use ultra wide angle lenses."

Dates Set for the Wonderful Bangalow Music Festival

Please read this letter just received regarding the wonderful Bangalow Music Festival:

It is with great excitement that I can advise you of the 2012 Bangalow Music Festival dates - the festival will take place over August 17, 18 and 19.  As always, the “Locals” night event will occur on Thursday 16 August.

As you know the Bangalow Music Festival is an enchanting weekend of music in Bangalow.  The Festival is a world-class event with program rich in collaboration between professional chamber ensembles, emerging young artists, Australian composers and outstanding soloists.

Over the years the Festival has welcomed many distinguished artists, including Ilya Knovalov (Concertmaster of the Israel Philharmonic), the Australian String Quartet, Tankstream Quartet, Tel-Aviv Trio, Marshall Maguire, Slava Grigoryan, and of course members of the Southern Cross Soloists. After attending the Festival in 2004, legendary Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe described it as, “the most exciting festival, outside a capital city, that I have ever attended”.

The award-winning Bangalow Music Festival has been the most spectacular development of the Southern Cross Soloists in recent years. The Festival has grown to become one of the country’s finest music festivals. The year 2011 marked the tenth anniversary of this wonderful festival.

The 2012 Bangalow Music Festival will prove to be just as wonderful as previous years – more information will be forwarded to you over the coming months.

Regards

Margaret Curtis

Bangalow Music Festival, Logistics Director

Have you looked at the moon lately?

You are not going to believe it, but the moon has had a facelift. We decided it was time for some serious branding, so we just happened to find an old retired Russian cosmonaut living in the hills of Nimbin called Boris, who has a mate with connections at NASA. So we chartered one of the old space shutles and filled it with a LOT of paint and a few local painters and set them the task of putting our logo on the moon. Boris managed to learn to read enough English to figure out which controls to use, and off they all went.

(download)

We are thrilled, but we are a bit concerned because Boris and the boys were last seen by the Hubble Telescope heading in completely the wrong direction. I guess they will be ok until the oxygen runs out!

Tell us what you think of the result, and leave us a comment below...
